Our Mission

The Netherwood-Gibrall Foundation is a charitable Foundation completely independent of Benedictine and Saint Gertrude, which supports the student-athletes at Benedictine and Saint Gertrude financially with tuition assistance through each award recipient's four years of high school. We strive to make both Benedictine and Saint Gertrude affordable to all eligible student-athletes and to perpetuate the continued academic and athletic excellence of both schools. We also support the overall academic and athletic success at both schools. We operate, manage, and fundraise independently and make all financial and investment decisions, including tuition distributions, independent from Benedictine and Saint Gertrude.

About Netherwood-Gibrall

The Netherwood-Gibrall Foundation was created by W. Barry Gibrall, '64, and Brenda Netherwood Gibrall, '61, both long-term supporters of Benedictine and Saint Gertrude. Gibrall and Netherwood’s vision and unending dedication resulted in the establishment of a perpetual and independent foundation with the sole purpose of supporting student-athletes —allowing them to afford, attend and excel throughout their entire four years of high school.

In Memoriam

W. Barry Gibrall

The Netherwood Gibrall Foundation, a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, honors the memory and enduring legacy of W. Barry Gibrall, Benedictine Class of 1964, whose vision and leadership as a Founding Director and Co-Chairman, along with Brenda Netherwood Gibrall, helped establish the Foundation and define its lasting purpose.

Barry envisioned an independent foundation dedicated to helping students at Benedictine College Prep and Saint Gertrude High School afford the cost of tuition for all four years of high school. He understood that such assistance would do more than ease the financial burden of tuition: it would create meaningful opportunities for students while strengthening both schools spiritually, academically and athletically.

Central to Barry’s vision was the Foundation’s independence. He believed the Foundation should raise funds independently from the two schools, make its own decisions regarding awards of tuition assistance, and invest the funds it raised independently - all while faithfully supporting the missions of Benedictine College Prep and Saint Gertrude High School.

Barry also looked beyond the needs of the present. His vision was to build a fund that would exist perpetually, extending educational opportunities to generations of students for years to come. Through careful stewardship and independent investment, the Foundation would preserve and grow the resources entrusted to it, ensuring that his commitment to students and to both schools would endure.

The Netherwood Gibrall Foundation remembers W. Barry Gibrall with profound gratitude. His foresight, dedication, and belief in the transformative value of education remain at the heart of the Foundation’s work. His legacy lives on in the Foundation he helped create, in the schools he sought to strengthen, and in every student whose future is made brighter through the opportunities he envisioned.

May his memory continue to inspire all who carry this mission forward.
